Der Text der kleinen 4-stimmigen Motette „Wach auf“ findet sich im Epheserbrief (Epheser 5, 14). Paulus zitiert darin wohl ein urchristliches Lied „Wach auf, Schläfer! Steh auf von den Toten! Christus will dich hell machen, hell wie die Sonne.“
Der erste und dritte Teil der Motette sind gospelhaft freudig, der zweite ist ein ruhiges grosses Crescendo, durch verschiedene Tonarten modulierend.
„Wach auf“ entstand auf Anregung von Viktor Hug (Ruh-Verlag) als Zwilling zu „Vater unser“. Er veröffentlichte diese Motette in der Reihe canticum novum als Blatt 8 im Verlag Emil Ruh.
