Trotz der musikalischen Innovationen war die Uraufführung Der Oper Xerxes im King's Theatre, Haymarket, ein totaler Misserfolg. Bald vom Spielplan genommen, wurde die Oper erst im Zuge der neuen deutschen Händel-Renaissance um 1920 wiederentdeckt. Das Largo gehört zu den, hoffentlich bald auch bein Jungen Musikern, wohl bekanntesten Melodien dieser Zeit.
